Friendly Society holds 12th AGM

“Notwithstanding the challenges, we had growth in our membership, funds under management, the Funeral Benefit Scheme (FBS) and Waqf (Islamic endowments), and at the end of the year a dividend of 3% was paid to our member-investors and a rebate of 37% to the member-participants of the FBS,” said Aziz Mohammed, President of Takaaful T&T Friendly Society on Sunday, April 18th, at the Twelfth Annual General Meeting of the Society.

The Meeting which was held in the Auditorium of the Bureau of Standards at Macoya got underway at 9.15 a.m. with a most beautiful Quranic recitation by youthful Nabeel Ali. Matters on the Agenda then moved along smoothly, with the meeting coming to a close at noon, inclusive of elections. Thirty (30) gift baskets contributed by companies and sole traders were distributed at the end of the meeting.

Secretary Manwar Ali presented an encouraging Report of the Board of Management’s achievements during the past year 2009. The Audited Financial Statements for the year ending December 31st, 2009 were presented by Treasurer Fareed Ali. Elections conducted by Trustee Omar Gorib saw 3 directors elected for three years and 2 substitutes for one year. Aziz Mohammed and Manwar Ali were re-elected to the Board. Azrudeen Juman, an ACCA student, was also elected to the Board for the first time while veteran Faiz Amin was elected First Substitute and Zafir Ali, a final year student at UWI, Second Substitute.

The continued sterling efforts of the BOM, members of the various committees and consultants were recognized by members as was the continued generosity of corporations who donated the gift baskets such as S.M. Jaleel & Co. Ltd., Nestle, M&D, Illuminat T&T Ltd., R. Khan Trading, Mid Eastern Travel Services Ltd., Atlantic Trading Co. Ltd., Canamax, Shazam Mohammed Real Estate, Low Cost Supermarket, Celectricon Enterprises Ltd., Chief Brand Products Ltd., Wevolutions, Copitech, The Market Place, Maxsal Drugstore, Graphic Scripts, Al-Musaafir’s BBQ, Shaffick Hosein & Co. Ltd., Salsabeel, Tarac, Jamaludeen Hosein & Family and Kameel Hosein & Family.

Members were informed of the Society’s Annual Dinner due to take place on May 15th next at the Islamic Centre, Kelly Village, Caroni with details of the Family Day to be announced at a later date.

Following the AGM, members were provided with lunch and other refreshment and an opportunity to socialize.
